Enabling Java Web Start Applications for the PC

Depending on the set-up of your computer, there are several things that must be done in order to run the modules from this site. Basically, Java needs to be installed, and then there a few clicks you have to go through to run each module. These instructions work when using the Microsoft Edge Browser version 42, using the Windows 10 operating system.

1. Install Java
How do you know that you need to install Java? Go thru these few steps to find out:
1.1 Go to http://em7e.eecs.umich.edu, click on the modules link on the left, and then click on one of the modules, any one...
1.2 On the bottom-left of the browser it will ask you what you want to do with this file, click "Open".
1.3 If a pop-up asks you "How do you want to open this file?" this means Java is not installed.
1.4 Go back to your browser, and go to this URL: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
1.5 Click on the link "Windows Online"
1.6 Your browser will ask "What do you want to do with...", click "Run".
1.7 A pop-up will ask "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?", click "Yes".
1.8 The installer pop-up will then open: click "Install >" on lower right.
1.9 On the next pop-up click "OK". It will show a progress bar, and then say "You have successfully installed Java...". Click "Close".

2. Running modules with Java
Once Java is installed, the following procedure will work for running the modules:
2.1 Click on one of the modules.
2.2 Your browser will ask "What do you want to do with...", click "Run".
2.3 A pop-up will ask: "Do you want to run this application". First check the box to the left of: "Do not show this again....". Then click the "Run" button.
2.4 The java module should then run normally.
